In this hyper -technological, overly busy, over stimultated world, I often find myself longing for the simplicity of days gone by...
Golly gee I sometimes wish I was June Cleaver. Or even a cave-person. Did they have it better or does it just seem like their lives were simpler? How can we create simplicity in our 2008 crazy lifestyles?
Sometimes, I feel like this: "Stop the world, I want to get OFF!!!"

But rarely do I really slow down. I love life, and I thrive on being busy and engaged. But I do long for a time when people were not staring at a screen half the time. I do wonder what it would be like to go back in time to when things seem to move at even a slightly less rapid pace.
I bet June Cleaver would argue that OUR lives are simpler with technology. Hmmm...
I guess that leaves me to make some choices to unplug, unwind, and embrace some good old fashioned down time.
Take a moment today to embrace a little simplicity. To truly notice a child. To read a good book. To take a breathe of outdoor fresh air. I don't really want to go back in time. I just want to remember some good old fashioned values of family, faith, and friends.
Life is precious, Time is not a given, and simplicity is a choice, and a skill we can learn.

...there's no place like your home!

BethAnn, it wasn't really simpler back then!
For example, Blogging was particularly tough on Cavemen - scratched knuckles, having to harvest all the berries, and then there was the 're-blogging' and the 'outside blog' posting - Forget about it!!
Not only that, but my wife points out (continually) that June Cleaver baked in her high heels and a perfect hairdo. . . I'd say we have simplified quite a bit these days... (hope I'm not in trouble for that one!)

Shoot I simply miss the 80s and being a child times were simplier and not much technology to complicate things. I sometimes wish we werent so connected.
Just remember, June Cleaver had issues too. What gloves to wear with what hat? Do these pearls go with this dress? I'm not even going to go down the "problems with Wally and the Beaver" road. If only Ward would have listened to the Beaver more often. LOL
My daughter and son-in-law just adopted a sweet, beautiful, little three year old girl. I'm on cloud nine. It's good to be me.
Take care.
I'm sure every era has its own set of undesirable problems, but I grew up with the internet so I know how to put it down and enjoy the day but when the internet goes out I NEED it back. =) I had a great day today without the internet until I remembered I was expecting an e-mail from a client and I had to check something I was watching on e-bay, and see what was going on here on ActiveRain...Great post, everyone needs to power down and enjoy life.
Hi Bethann;
I too long for those happy days, but we all must make adjustments in life. Good Luck.
We always seem to wish for what we don't have. I wonder if you did slow down and not have the distraction, would you be really bored?
BethAnn - It's true, life moves at a pretty fact pace, but I wouldn't trade places with June Cleaver for any amount of money. But we can all learn to savor life's simple pleasures like you mentioned.
I hope you all know I am very glad I don't cook in high heels!
BethAnn,
I really don't miss the days of getting listing MLS books and quarterly comp books and having to run copies from those books to give to buys. I love technology. We have to know when to just turn it off and take time for our selves and learn to chill and recharge. It's up to us how and when and how smart we work. Good post!
Funny you wrote this. I was thinking this a week or so ago. I wish we could all slow down and relax like we did years ago.
Yes Tony, can you imagine June Cleaver thinking how the computer would simplify her life? Ha!
Well, June would be excited that she could find any recipe on the internet but she may not be able to turn on the computer. We have come a long way and one day, we will be the Cleavers!
We've come such a long way---thank God we're HERE now!
I think what it basically comes down to is...we miss the days we could get by on a one income family and still have a little money to stick back. Mother's got to be home when the kids got home and they were supervised, and day care was something rarely used. The children were better for it, the husbands felt more like the man of the house, and we were only doing the one job, instead of the 2 we do now.
Time is a very interesting thing... it is what you do with "time" that counts!!!
your friend in Charlottesville!
I was recently looking at old photo albums at my parents house and thinking how much things had changed in my lifetime. It just doesn't seem possible that things have changed so much.
I had a conversation yesterday with a friend who has no cell phone, no personal computer and no cable television. He says he's holding out for as long as he can. He has a good thing going. :-)
Wow you guys this is a very interesting conversation! Thanks for commenting.
