I deal in a wide variety of price ranges. Some say you should have a niche, and making happy clients is mine!
What would be a modest home for a first time home buyer, is indeed a luxury home for those who cannot buy one.
When you consider the plight of many in the human family, a "starter" home is more than the majority will ever own.
I don't decline clients or buyers regardless of how modest or fancy of a home they want to buy or sell.
Good service is the same, regardless of what the product is. Of course, I enjoy showing high end and luxury homes in Spokane WA , and I am comfortable doing so. But I truthfully -and equally enjoy the joy of working with first time home buyers in Spokane WA as well. They are so tickled when they walk through the door of their first home!
Home is where the heart is. It might be a 1 bedroom condo, or a mansion on the hill. I once got a call from a gal who said " I have 90,000 cash, I need to buy a home and nobody will help me. Will YOU?" We found a cute Victorian home and she has become a friend! Bonus! I gave her the same service as the million dollar buyers, and for me, this works. People are people, and pride of ownership runs deep- whether you buy a fixer-upper or a custom masterpiece. There's no place like home, and it is a privilege to be a homeowner, any way you look at it.

...there's no place like your home!

Bethann how true that statement is, a home to each person is their castle and true luxury home. It's true when you watch the eyes of a first time hoem buyer who purchases their first house.
Thanks Heather!
BethAnn: Even without reading a word of your post... there is such wisdom just in the title alone. Many Realtors talk about "working the luxury market"... but it is so true that each and every home that a seller actually lives in... can be their "luxury home." Very well said.
And... obviously... the more we treat our customers and clients as if we KNOW how much their home means to them... the better our relationship with them will become, and the more referrals we will receive.
Hi Beth!

I find first time home buyers to be really enjoyable. I get a chance to teach them about the process and help them get the home of their dreams. I don't thing anything is more fun!
Hi BethAnn, So true. And beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I have to distance my opinion and adopt my clients. What they find interesting or attractive or horid, I certainly do not always agree.
What I like has no bearing in the decision. It is my clients who hold the vision and I have to dig it out of them as often they cannot express it or even recognize it.
And when finally the client can express what they are looking for, the process becomes easier and decision points clearer.
I think you have a great attitude Beth. We all have to live somewhere. It disappoints me to think that an agent would turn someone away just because of the price point of the home they are looking for. A customer is a customer. I suppose in the very least they could be referred to someone who may specialize in their price segment but to turn them away is just not right.
Thank you KarenAnne!
Paula: me too!
John, that would make a good blog!
John, great minds think alike :)
Good for you BethAnn, When you treat people with respect you will be greatly rewarded ... see you have already gained a friend ;o)
Liz, yes I did. It was my least expensive home sold that year, but now she is saving for an income property!
I actually got a new client because the agent that WAS working for him told him she did not want to submit a contract for a property he liked because she would not get paid enough.....
Some agents are just plain stupid....
;-)
Alexander, that is tacky.
