Life is SO FULL of little speckles of moments worth savoring. A beautiful sunset, a giggle from a child, a song from the past, a silly moment with your pet.
I wonder...can we be increasingly more intentional about savoring such simplicity? I mean life is FULL of these moments strung together.
I want to make a conscious effort to allow these moments to rise to the top, rather than the ones that create friction in my soul.
While life unfolds for most of us in a somewhat monotonous daily grind, how much would it benefit our health to actually celebrate these moments by sharing them with others, writing them down, and validating others when they occur.
You see...I lived much of my earlier years as a pessimist. There are many reasons for this...but little by little I have chosen to see the bright side of things. For many, this is truly a learned skill. Try it, you'll like it!
As an artist (singer/songwriter) there are alot of places and spaces in my heart where hooking up with the heartache comes so naturally for me. This, for me, is a given. So, I have taken baby steps to hone the positive side of thinking, and much to my surprise, I am changed.
I find that being fully aware of the amazing ordinariness of savoring the simple, is not only a choice, but a gift I am learning to give myself.
Last night, my 11 year old son had a friend spend the night. He was bit younger, and it was his first time spending the night away from home. My dear son was aware that this was a big step for Mikey, so he set up a little place for him in his room. He had a little light, a noise machine, which he is used to at home, and mostly adorable, he read aloud to his friend for almost 30 minutes. He made sure the door was wide open so his friend felt secure and, well this was truly a treasured moment for me.
I am not very strict, nor do I require much structure around my home, but one thing I am passionate about with my kids is developing EMPATHY.
I share this proud moment with you, and hope you have millions of ordinary moments to savor.
Be on the lookout, be present, be Aware...the magic is all around you. Enjoy.
